SCI Pine Grove reports first COVID-19 inmate death

INDIANA, Pa (WJAC) — According to a release from the Department of Corrections, SCI Pine Grove officials have reported the facility's first COVID-19 inmate death. Authorities say the inmate, who will not be named, was a 38-year-old male who died at a local hospital. Prison officials say the inmate had been at the Indiana County facility since January 2019 and was serving a 1-and-a-half to five year sentence for receiving stolen property. Read More...

Ashville man pleads guilty to filming child sex acts, DOJ says

Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities say an Ashville man appeared in federal court Wednesday where he pleaded guilty to charges related to the filming of child sex acts. Michael Sollenberger, 41, was charged in 2020 after investigators discovered a video of him reportedly raping a young girl. Authorities say Sollenberger admitted to taking naked photographs of a young female, between the ages of 8 and 10-years-old. Investigators say he also confessed to touching the young girl and performing sex acts with her, and that he recorded a video of one of the acts. Read More...

Governor says budget passed because 'everybody wanted to go home'

(TCS) — Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker is heralding a budget that Republicans say was crammed down taxpayers' throats in the dead of night. After the Senate approved the state budget package late in the evening Sunday, the House took the measure up in the early morning hours Wednesday. The measure spends $53.1 billion and increases a variety of taxes on businesses by about $730 million. State Rep. Patrick Windhorst, R-Metropolis, called out Democrats in the supermajority for violating their own rules by attempting to concur on one of the measures three times when rules only allow two attempts.
