VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WEAR) — A New Jersey man was arrested at his mother's home after allegedly making an anonymous online threat to kill a Florida sheriff.
Richard Golden, 38, of Monmouth Junction, N.J., is charged with making a written threat to kill or cause injury. He will be extradited to Volusia County, Fla.
Deputies say he made the threat against Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood "due to the sheriff’s recent stand against a neo-Nazi hate group."
“I cannot wait to meet him when he gets off the plane,” Chitwood said, “because one of the first faces he’s going to see welcoming him to the Volusia County Jail, the happiest place on earth, is going to be me.”
According to the sheriff's office, Golden posted the threat in a 4Chan chat on Feb. 22.
The information was flagged by the Central Florida Intelligence Exchange (CFIX).
Golden was arrested without incident Monday afternoon by South Brunswick police.
A New Jersey teen was recently arrested and extradited to Santa Rosa County for making swatting calls to Milton High School.
