Fans react after Commanders unveil new mascot 'Major Tuddy'

The Washington Commanders' official mascot was unveiled during halftime of the team's New Year's Day game versus the Cleveland Browns.

Fans were asked to give a warm welcome to "Major Tuddy."

The mascot reveal comes after the original HOGS claimed last week owner Dan Snyder and the Commanders are trying to profit off their legacy.

The Commanders official Twitter account posted Sunday:

"He's kind of a pig deal...WELCOME OUR NEW MASCOT, MAJOR TUDDY!"

One user wrote, "Kinda cised for Commander Major Tuddy tbh. The helmet is a good look and that pig's got guns."

Another Twitter user said, "Welcome to The Team Major Tuddy!!!!"

While some were happy to support the giant stuffed pig, others weren't so sure.

One user wrote, "The #Commanders' new mascot is Major Tuddy. His reception is only slightly warmer than that for Carson Wentz."

Another Twitter user wrote, "I will never refer to the Washington mascot as 'Major Tuddy.' Ever."

Another person, who appears to have attended the game, said, "I was wondering why they were giving out snouts to everyone...to introduce major tuddy lol."

Regardless, Major Tuddy seems to be a big hit with younger fans.

7News' sports anchor Scott Abraham said, "I just asked my 5-year-old daughter what she thought of Major Tuddy, the Commanders new mascot. She said...'awwww he's so cute. Can I hug him?' That's a win in the Abraham household."

Major Tuddy also has his own mascot bio. Here's a sampling from the fact sheet:

"Major Tuddy's love for Washington football began when he was just a piglet after watching the Hogs offensive lives of the 1980s and 1990s. He was so inspired by their toughness, strength and the way their it all out on the line for their teammates! The squad-first example they set had such an impact on him. When he got older, he was eager to find a role where he could stand for those ideals set by the Hogs, be around his favorite team and use his passion for service. The Commanders mascot job couldn't have been more perfect!"
